    Course objectives and characteristics

    The Bachelor’s degree in Biology offers a broad, thorough training in the different fundamental subjects which are essential for a successful academic career in Biology, Genetics, and Animal and Plant Physiology.  The degree lasts three years, and throughout the course students are supported and guided in their choice of modules by the teaching staff.  Each year of the degree, from the acquisition of fundamental principles up to specialisation, focuses on precise objectives so that students can plan and develop both their academic studies and their subsequent professional careers.

    The Biology, Physics and Chemistry option of the Biology honours degree, is characterised by a multidisciplinary approach that reflects the rapid developments in modern biology, and allows students to acquire knowledge in complementary disciplines in biology.  After this third year, students have the option to pursue further study with a Master’s degree in ‘Science of the Genome and Organisms’, or with a Master’s in ‘Materials Science’.  This multi-disciplinary qualification is also a pathway to certain professional careers, in industries such as agrochemicals, food production, cosmetics, or the field of biophysics.

     

    Course structure

    Students begin to specialise in the final year of the degree (L3). 
    This third year is broken down into two teaching semesters, each followed by examinations. Lectures (also known as CM), Tutorials (TD) and Practical Work (TP) are grouped into Teaching Units (TU). Some subjects are compulsory, others are chosen by students from a range of options. These optional papers offer students the chance to study topics of interest from the course in greater detail and/or to discover topics from other disciplines and to explore inter-disciplinary approaches.

     

    Accompagnement pédagogique

    Students receive academic support in various forms throughout their studies :

    • Access to online services (academic portal, course resources, personal online progress monitoring…),
    • A designated supervising tutor,
    • Assistance in orientation towards the Masters provided by the teaching staff, the Department of Information and Orientation of High School Students and Undergraduates (PIOLE),
    • Certificates in languages and information technology as part of the degree (CLES, C2I).

     

     

    Further study

    Students may opt to pursue their studies up to Master’s level (bac + 5) or beyond.

     

    Terms of admission

    To be admitted to L3 :

    • Students with a BTS or DUT in a compatible field may be admitted, subject to the approval of the course director.
    • Students must have 120 academic credits (ECTS) from years one and two of this course, or 120 academic credits from years one and two of another course and the formal agreement of the course director.
