Bachelor's Degree in Sport and Physical Education (STAPS)

STAPS Degree L3 Special Option Physical Training and Healthcare
Sciences, Technologies, Santé

Academic year : 2017 / 2018

last update 04/12/2012

    Course objectives and characteristics

The "Specialist Physical Training and Healthcare" (APAS) third-year option aims to train professionals (specialist physical trainers, physical therapy coaches) specialising in physical training and therapy for people with disabilities, illnesses and mobility issues, and for the elderly. This course includes a special focus on physical therapy and training for the elderly, prisoners and those dealing with metabolic disorders (e.g. obesity). This is a truly professionally-oriented course, with theoretical work backed up by practical work experience and a teaching staff of whom 60% are active professionals.

    Course structure

The final year of the Bachelor's Degree (L3) sees students continue along the specialised path they chose in L2.

It is made up of two teaching semesters, at the end of which exams are organised. Lectures, Tutorials (also known as TD) and Practical Seminars (or TP) are grouped into Teaching Units (TU). Some subjects are compulsory, others are chosen from a range of options. These optional papers offer students the chance to study topics of interest from the course in greater detail and/or to discover topics from other disciplines and to explore inter-disciplinary approaches.

    Accompagnement pédagogique

Students receive academic support in various forms throughout their studies :

    • Access to online services (academic portal, course resources, personal online progress monitoring),
    • A designated supervising tutor,
    • Advice on orientation towards a Master's degree, provided by the teaching team and the PIOLE centre (Information and Orientation for Pupils and Students),
    • Independent language and IT qualifications integrated into the degree course (CLES, C2I).

    Internship

The course includes a compulsory internship component, with students spending time in a specialised environment (prison, retirement home, institute for physical therapy).

    Further study

Students on this course may opt to pursue their studies up to Master's level (Bac +5) and beyond.

    Terms of admission

Admission to the third year: Students must have already obtained 120 academic credits (ECTS) in this degree, or 120 credits (ECTS) from a similar degree programme and the explicit approval of the course director.
